Cassettes and Freewheels
Both the cassette and the freewheel are parts of the bicycle’s drivetrain that are responsible for changing gears and smoothly transferring power from the crank to the rear wheel. Our offer mainly includes Shimano cassettes and freewheels. We are gradually expanding our offer and will soon also include cassettes and freewheels from other reputable brands such as SRAM.
What is the difference between a cassette and a freewheel?
A bicycle cassette is a set of sprockets mounted on the rear wheel hub drum. The big advantage of this solution is a wider range of gears (usually from 7 to 13 gears) and the possibility of replacing individual cassette sprockets in case of wear.
A freewheel is an older solution in which the sprockets are permanently integrated with a ratchet mechanism. The freewheel is screwed onto the rear wheel hub thread. It is not possible to replace individual sprockets in a freewheel, and they offer a smaller range of gears (usually 5 to 7 gears).
